Andrew Dobson's Artwork: Sherlock Question!
Why do fans like to make artwork and sad stories about Sherlock being dead and John being super depressed and sad and how emotional and upsetting it is that Sherlock died.
He’s not dead.
Anyone who’s read anything Sherlock related knows that he never died when he fought Moriarty. Even the two…

igravitatetowardrobbiev answered:
Because John DOESN’T know he’s not dead. And the angst. It has nothing to do with not reading the books.
-
daamazingmeepers answered:
Because they like angst. I don’t understand it either.-_-

miljathefailcat answered:
Fandom loves some angst.
-
puppy-eater answered:
You’ve probably already got answers but if you watched Reichenbach, Sherlock fakes his death, and john THINKS he is dead.
-
0ldsp0rt answered:
It’s not about the fact that he’s dead. It’s the fact that Watson doesn’t know he’s alive. Imagine your best friend, gone, and not knowing.

Because they suffer enough with the canon stories and the BBC show and they secretly enjoy their suffering? I think it’s sort of a shadenfreude-on-ourselves sort of thing.
-
gentlemantown answered:
Probably because those people have an imagination.
-
vyktorkun answered:
probably because a part of the female fanbase is more interested in the otp, and making fanfics , than the actual story…. fangirls….

why do we have to judge every freakin fandom ?!
-
mandi-cakes answered:
Maybe it’s the depiction of Watson being sad or forlorn before he founds out that Sherlock is actually alive.
-
leetikins answered:
Because it’s all through John’s eyes. As well as the general public. Not through the reader’s eyes.
-
leiaku-jo answered:
John thinks that Sherlock is dead, he doesn’t know hes alive until much later.
-
time-lady-in-the-shire said:
There are a few reasons for this.
1. John believes Sherlock to be dead, so the fandom panders to only John’s point of view, most likely because angst writing is far too easy to write.
2. This viewpoint is the easiest way to portray JohnLock.
-
sigma-enigma answered:
Because John doesn’t know he’s alive yet.
-
emma-of-hearts answered:
I think it’s because fans like to emerge themselves in the character’s world, to do so, fans need to make themselves believe Sherlock’s dead.
-
petitpachydermegracile answered:
cause watson thinks sherlocks dead and thats sad. basically.

adversariespurified said:
Well John thinks that Sherlock is dead right now. (In BBC version).
I don’t know let the fans have their fun.
-
blooper-boy answered:
Because a lot of fans really enjoy reading ‘man angst.’ In Sherlock, this can be achieved by either killing Sherlock or having John think so.
-
thequeenpi answered:
Because though Sherlock is dead, John and the rest of the world doesn’t know that and will react to it. It’s important for John’s character
-
ani-kun answered:
because angst is amazing and a lot of it is because Watson doesn’t know that Holmes is dead, I think
-
nicolascagesempai answered:
Fics about him actually being dead are usually AU. And for now John thinks hes dead in the show.

because the fans are more concerned with johnlock than the actual plot.

littleselfia answered:
It’s mainly to connect with the the emotional level of John and play off how they think he would take it. It’s from his perspective,I believe

fireladyphoenix said:
The fandom knows that he’s not actually dead. They just enjoy AU’s and the opportunity to add some angst to their ship.
-
cereal-murder answered:
because most of the fandom is obsessed with seeing them fuck and havent read the books
